Discipline Is a Form of Devotion

Why I believe how you treat your body is a daily act of stewardship.

Paul wrote to Timothy, "Discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness" (1 Timothy 4:7). He knew something most of us forget: the habits of the body and the habits of the soul are connected. The man who can keep a promise to himself at 5 a.m. is practicing the same muscle he needs to keep his promises to his family.

Your body is a gift

Scripture calls your body a temple (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). That's not a call to vanity; it's a call to stewardship. You were given a body to serve with: to carry your kids, to work hard, to stay in the fight for the people counting on you. Letting it slowly fall apart isn't humility. It's neglect.

What strength is actually for

Before I ever wrote a training program, I spent more than a decade working in my dad's landscaping company. Long days, heavy work, heat and cold. That's where I learned that strength isn't for the mirror. It's for the work in front of you and the people behind you. That's still how I coach.

Start small and stay faithful

Devotion isn't built in one dramatic moment. It's built in small, faithful reps: the walk after dinner, the protein at breakfast, the three sessions you said you'd get done. Be faithful in the small things and the big things follow.

"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men."Colossians 3:23
